When Greene County and the other Class 2A wrestling schools in Iowa begin the 2022 High School State Tournament at 9 a.m. Thursday inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, the Rams will have experience on their side. Head Coach Zach Beekman talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about that and said it can be vital in handling the atmosphere of eight mats going at the same time and several thousands of fans in the stands.

Greene County’s three State qualifiers have all been there before. Sophomore Gavin Scheuermann qualified as a ninth grader in 2021 and he’s at 152 lbs. Juniors Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins are both 2021 State Champions and they both placed at State as freshmen.

The coach added, “Everybody knows the environment and the competition are tough, so the more experience you can have with that, the better.”

All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have extensive play-by-play from Thursday morning through the finals on Saturday night, and all the action will be streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. RVR will be following qualifiers from 14 area schools.
