Dallas Center – Grimes wrestling was on the mat on Saturday in Johnston for 3A wrestling district tournament action, and the Mustangs were able to find some success as they will be sending three to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Logan Gard was able to qualify at 132 pounds, Jacob Fistler able to wrestle well to advance at 152 pounds, and Connor Pertzsch moving on at 182.

Pertzsch was the only district winner for DCG, as he was able to grab a 5-0 win in the semifinals over Isaiah Kellow of Indianola 5-0. In the championship match, he was able to defeat Chase Hutchinson of West Des Moines Valley 3-1 to secure his spot in the state tournament.

Gard was able to get a win in the semifinals over Dalton Rowe of Bondurant-Farrar at a fall in 4:23, but fell in the championship match to Cael Meacham of Indianola 4-2. He was able to move on after an NC from Rowe. At 152, Fistler was able win via a fall in his quarterfinal match in 1:29, then picked up a major decision 13-0 over AJ Pontier of Indianola. In the Final, he lost via fall to Braden Blackorby of Johnston but still would move forward for second.

For these three wrestlers, they will be competing in the 3A state tournament on Thursday starting at 1:30. Gard will be facing Carter Fecht of Waverly-Shell Rock, Fistler to face Brennan Amos of Newton, and Pertzsch to take on Harrison Gibson of Southeast Polk.
