The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office recently announced they will be doing compliance checks around local businesses for the sale of tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products to keep these illegal products away from underage people in the county.
Sheriff Marty Arganbright says that there are more electronic cigarettes out in the public than there ever has been. Arganbright states that has led to the Sheriff’s Office being called to schools to address minors in possession of those devices. Arganbright voices his concern with the nicotine use in schools.
“Nicotine is an addictive drug, so they’re still using it, that’s why they vape, it’s hard to detect and if they’re doing it in the school people don’t know what they’re doing, but it is happening.”
He says any illegal sales in the county are met with citations which will cost up to $135 on the first offense.
