Friday night saw Glidden-Ralston defeat Paton-Churdan in the opening round of high school boys’ Class 1A District basketball tournament play in Glidden. It was the third meeting this season between the Rolling Valley Activities Conference rivals with G-R taking game one and P-C winning game two. The rubber match was decided by two points, 49-47. The Rockets end the season at 1-19.
The Rockets, under the direction of veteran coach Bud Fagen, led 26-23 at halftime, but had just four third quarter points to 11 for the Wildcats. A two point advantage in the fourth quarter at 17-15 saw P-C come up just short. Joe Carey and Justin Stream each had 11 points with 10 by Shaydon Thurman. Parker Fitzpatrick and Thurman each hauled down seven rebounds and Bradyn Smith had seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
