Greene County ends its boys’ basketball regular season tonight with a long road trip southwest to Treynor. The Rams are 9-11 overall and they finished Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play at 8-6. The Cardinals are 16-3 overall and they went 14-2 in the Western Iowa Conference, good for second place behind AHSTW (Avoca).
The Rams are hoping the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s home loss to Saydel (Des Moines) is a sign the offense is back on track. Coach Chris Nelson’s team scored 7, 12, and 13 points in the first three quarters before exploding for 31 in the final eight minutes in the 70-63 loss. On Monday of this week in Gowrie, the Rams put up just 32 total points in a 62-32 loss to Southeast Valley. Before that, Greene County had scored 75, 88, and 61 points. For the most part, if the three-point shots fall, the Rams score well, and conversely, wins are few and far between when Greene County has fewer three-point baskets than the opposition.
It’s a JV/varsity twin bill from Treynor with the varsity game broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com at approximately 7:30 p.m.
