Greene County dropped a pair of one-sided non-conference basketball games Monday night in Gowrie to Southeast Valley. The Jaguars were girls’ winners 49-25 and they won the boys’ game 62-32. Both games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Rams fell to 2-18 in girls’ basketball while SEV improved to 4-16. Breck Mills, a 6′ 0″ sophomore scored 13 of her 22 points in the first quarter and she finished with a game high 22. Kenna Scott added 11 points. The Rams had 13 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots from Brianna Habben, the lone senior on the team. The Rams were nine of 38 shooting from the field, six of 17 from the free throw line, and they turned the ball over 27 times. SEV had just 10 turnovers and made 18 of 50 shots from the floor and 11 of 15 from the foul line.

Greene County led 9-2 in the boys’ game with 4:55 remaining in the first quarter, then 6′ 5″ Iowa Hawkeyes football recruit Aaron Graves took over. Graves had 13 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, leading the Jaguars to a 32-24 lead at intermission. The Rams scored just eight second half points and went two of 24 from the field in the last two periods of play, finishing 11 of 45. SEV was eight 21 from three-point range and 22 of 49 overall. Kolson Kruse added 19 points for SEV while Richard Daugherty had more than half the Rams’ points with 17. SEV is 10-10 and the Rams are 9-10. They’ll meet in the opening round of Class 2A District play on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in Carroll at Kuemper Catholic High School.

The Rams host Saydel (Des Moines) tonight in the high school gym in Jefferson. It’s the final Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games for Greene County and the regular season finale for the girls. Air time is 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoovnalleyradio.com.
