Nevada swept a girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Story County from Greene County on Friday night, and the Paton-Churdan boys lost in Westside to Ar-We-Va.

Coach Tori Ogden’s Greene County girls led the Cubs early by a 5-2 score, then lost 48-10. Brianna Habben had the first five points for the Rams and never scored again. Greene County was down 31-10 at halftime and was shut out in the final two quarters to fall to 2-17 on the season and 0-13 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Nevada improved to 9-4 in the league and 12-9 overall. Bridget Cahill made four of the Cubs eight three-point goals and she finished with a game high 14 points.

The Cubs won the boys’ game 71-61 by scoring the last 10 points of the contest. After being blasted 84-53 in December in Jefferson, the Rams were right there until the last few minutes when they failed to score a single point. After trailing 33-32 at halftime, the Rams came out hot to start the third quarter and led 46-37 with 5:39 to go in the third quarter. The Cubs came back and the lead changed hands until the the three minute mark when the Rams when cold.

Nevada had 19 points from both James Edwards and Spencer Grant, and the Cubs went 14 of 25 on three-point shots and 25 of 49 overall. The Rams were nine of 19 on three’s and 25 of 50 overall. Richard Daugherty had 20 points for Greene County, but was shut out in the last quarter. Jesse Miller added 14 and only two of his points came in the final stanza where the Rams were out scored 21-8. Coach Chris Nelson’s team fell to 9-9 on the season and 8-5 in the HOIAC while the Cubs are now 13-5 and 10-2 in the league.

The Rams play Monday in Gowrie vs. Southeast Valley and Tuesday vs. Saydel in Jefferson to end the home portion of the schedule for both the girls and boys.

P-C played only the boys’ game at Ar-We-Va due to not enough healthy girls. The home team won 79-72, sending P-C to 1-16 overall and 1-11 in Rolling Valley Activities Conference play. One of the biggest offensive nights of the season for Coach Bud Fagen’s team had Joe Carey with 23 points and 17 apiece by Bradyn Smith and Shaydon Thurman.  Smith also had 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Thurman had six rebounds with Parker Fitzpatrick adding seven points and five rebounds. Carey had four assists. P-C led 37-36 at the half before AWV took over with a 25-16 third quarter scoring advantage.
