The estate of a recently passed away Greene County resident includes a sizable gift to a non-profit organization in the county.
Chuck Offenburger is the Greene County Community Foundation Fundraiser Campaign Chair and says not only did the estate for Alice Walters leave the community foundation nearly $500,000, but the same amount was directed to the Jefferson-Scranton Community Schools Foundation. The organization provides scholarships to graduates of the Greene County School District. This means, of the over $2 million Walters estate, the 104-year-old left about $1 million to the people of Greene County.
Offenburger notes her willingness to bequeath money didn’t stop within the borders of Greene County. Walters also gifted another fourth of her estate to Iowa Public Television and Iowa Public Radio. Additionally, another $25,000 went to the Iowa State University Foundation and $10,000 went to the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson. The final fourth will go back to various family members.
Walters passed away this past June.
