After the most recent Condition of the State Address from Governor Kim Reynolds, one local lawmaker is supportive of the tax reform proposals.
House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says he believes the proposed four-percent flat tax would put Iowa in a competitive place. Nordman says lawmakers want to continue to bring about tax reform.
“I’m a big proponent of her four-percent flat tax. I think flat taxes are fair, and they are fair across the board. House Republicans actually released our tax plan. It’s very similar to what the governor has proposed.”
Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio another piece of the House Republican tax plan is to eliminate taxes on retirement, which Nordman says he thinks is important.
“We are seeing people leaving our state to go to states like South Dakota, Texas and Florida who don’t tax their retirement and so we want those people to stay here in the State of Iowa and continue to invest in the community.”
Nordman says in the coming weeks the plans will come together between the Governor and House and Senate but the finer details will continue to be worked out.
