Monday night meant a Rolling Valley Activities Conference girl/boy basketball make up doubleheader for the Paton-Churdan teams. The Rockets played on the road at Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton with P-C losing 68-27 in the girls’ and and falling 77-65 in the boys’ contest.

The Spartans are 16-1 and ranked third in Class 1A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Rockets fell to 0-13 overall and 0-12 in the conference. The home team was up 47-12 at the half and the second half was played under the “35-point” continuous clock rule. The Rockets had 12 points from Carmyn Paup, nine by Haylee Duckett and six for Emma Stream to go with four rebounds. Grace Cullum stole the ball twice.

EEHK improved to 11-6 in boys’ basketball while the Rockets fell to 1-14 overall and 1-11 in the conference. The game was anything but easy for the home team as EEHK led 43-37 at the half and 55-49 at the end of the third quarter. Coach Bud Fagen told Raccoon Valley Radio he was very proud of the effort, especially with three starters on the bench in the fourth quarter due to foul trouble. Joe Carey led P-C with 24 points, four steals and four assists, and Seth Thurman added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Parker Fitzpatrick had seven points and eight rebounds. Justin Stream had six points and five assists, while Bradyn Smith chipped in seven points, four rebounds, and three assists.
