Greene County Community Foundation

There are a few days left to apply for grant funds through a non-profit organization in Greene County.

The Greene County Community Foundation recently announced that the non-profit gaming license holder for Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson, Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation, has allocated $150,000 to their organization for the 2022 grant cycle. Over the past 16 years, the foundation has given over $1.7 million in grants to worthy county projects.

The foundation is encouraging any non-profit organizations in the county to apply for funding for projects that are $35,000 or less. Those projects that are $35,000 and more need to be directed to Grow Greene County. Greene County Community Foundation member Tim Heisterkamp says they also have an endowment fund, which is now over $950,000, which they can also use for additional grants.

“But that endowment is there so we can spend five-percent of that balance every year. So take, for an example, let’s say we had a $1 million endowment, then we can spend five-percent or $50,000 a year in the form of grants. So it is very imperative that we keep growing that endowment. As our slogan says, ‘For Good Forever,’ those monies will just keep on giving for eternity.”

To donate to the foundation’s endowment, Heisterkamp says checks can be made payable to the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation and dropped off at Home State Bank. Grant applications can be done online or dropped off to Heisterkamp at Home State Bank until 5pm on February 10th.
