The postseason for Greene County wrestlers starts Saturday and there is three nights of Ram basketball in the next five days. Needless to say, this is a big week for Greene County’s high school sports teams.

Coach Zach Beekman’s wrestling team ended the regular season last Saturday with the team title at the ACGC Charger Invitational in Guthrie Center. The Rams took just 10 wrestlers and all 10 placed sixth or higher, led by individual champions Kale Petersen (120), McKinley Robbins (132), Gavin Scheuermann (152) and Nate Black (160). Next up is Class 2A Sectional 4 in Harlan this Saturday starting at 12 p.m. The top two finishers in each weight class advance to the Feb. 12 District in Glenwood and the top two teams in Harlan move on to a dual meet Regional on Feb. 8 at a site to be determined. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have reports from Class 1A and 2A Sectional Tournaments on Saturday.

The basketball teams host Perry tomorrow night in the high school gym in Jefferson on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader will be the Jayettes and Blue Jays first trip to the new high school gym. On Thursday, Des Moines Hoover visits the Rams in girls’ only action, and Friday is a trip to Nevada for a conference girl/boy doubleheader. The Rams end the basketball regular season next week, so postseason pairings should be released soon.
