Greene County finished in first place on Saturday at the 16-team ACGC Charger Invitational wrestling tournament in Guthrie Center. Kale Petersen (120), McKinley Robbins (132), Gavin Scheuermann (152), and Nathan Black (160) won individual titles as the Rams wrapped up the regular season with their first invitational tournament title in the four seasons with Zach Beekman as head coach and Kirk Davis as assistant. Their Ram teams have won other tournaments under their direction, but not an invitational nor an event of this size.
A four-for-four finals put the title securely in the hands of Rams, who finished with 180 points. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) was second at 153.5 with AHSTW (Avoca) at 143.5, Nodaway Valley 132.5, Riverside (Oakland) 109, Panorama 104, Pleasantville 103, and Woodward-Granger 97 to round out the top eight.
The Rams had four open weights and all 10 Greene County entires placed sixth or higher. In addition to the four champions, Brenner Gallagher (138) was third, Noble Hoyt (182) was fourth, Gavyn Winters (106) and Dakota Mobley (126) were both fifth, while Crew Conner (113) and Jackson Turner (145) were sixth.
The Rams will open the postseason on Saturday, Feb. 5 in Harlan at Class 2A Sectional 4 hosted by Harlan Community. The other four teams in that sectional are Carroll, Glenwood, Red Oak, and Southwest Iowa (Sidney).
