A local law enforcement agency recently announced it has partnered with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is helping to keep tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products away from underage people in Dallas County. Deputies will be conducting compliance checks of local businesses as part of the I-PLEDGE program.

Underage customers, under the supervision of law enforcement personnel, will be visiting stores and attempting to buy tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products. Those who make the illegal sale will be cited and the criminal penalties are $100 for the first offense, $250 for the second and $500 for the third offense and offenses after that.

Since the program’s creation in 2000 the statewide tobacco compliance rate has risen to 95-percent.
