The Greene County Medical Center has renamed one of its awards in honor of one of its own beloved employees.

The Employee Exemplifying Excellence Award was given to Cornelius “Case” Van Zelderen in 2019. Case worked at the medical center from 2008-2021 as an environmental service technician before becoming a patient transporter. He suddenly passed away in 2021. Part of his nomination from when he received the excellence award described Case as being kind and acknowledging everyone he interacted with. He also promoted high patient satisfaction when transporting patients and listened to their concerns.

This year, the award has been renamed the Van Zelderen Excellence Award. The annual award is given to an employee who goes above and beyond to uphold the medical center’s PRIDE values of Patient-centered care, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Empathy. This year’s ceremony will take place in March.
