Coach Zach Beekman’s Greene County High School wrestling team went 0-2 in non-conference dual meets in Algona on Thursday night and the Rams finished the dual meet regular season with a 10-9 record. Greene County lost vs. the host school by a 43-22, and lost vs. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 41-40. Forfeits were a major factor in both meets. The Rams forfeited four weight classes in both duals, with Algona not forfeiting at all and GHV forfeiting three times.
Rams going 2-0 on the night were Kale Petersen (120), Dakota Mobley (126/132), McKinley Robbins (132/138), and Nate Black (160/170). Petersen, a Class 1A State Champion at 106 lbs. for West Fork (Sheffield) made his Greene County debut with two falls. Robbins was a Greene County 2021 State Champion and his two wins upped his career record to 105-5.
The Greene County regular season concludes tomorrow in Guthrie Center at the ACGC Invitational. The postseason begins on Saturday, Feb. 5 in Harlan at 12 p.m. at a Class 2A Sectional Tournament hosted by Harlan Community with Carroll, Glenwood, Red Oak, and Southwest Iowa (Sidney) also included.
