Over 30 people attended the kick-off re-election campaign event in one of Iowa’s newest counties to the Third Congressional District.
Congresswoman Cindy Axne visited the Greene County Middle School Library Tuesday night. She spoke about her family background, as well as her time working for various governorships in Iowa before running for U.S. Congress. Axne said there were three things she continues to work on while serving in the House, which includes making sure there is money in people’s pockets, giving kids opportunities for a future and leveling the playing field for Iowans on a national scope.
Axne talked about politicians in Washington D.C. are striving to work together across the political aisle and she hopes to bring that same mentality to Greene County, which has historically voted Republican.
“The sad thing is, unfortunately, I think big media – not you (Raccoon Valley Radio) – is manipulating the message out there to think that we are against each other: the urbans against rurals, or Democrats or Republicans, that’s not the case. And so what I’m going to do is just what I’ve been doing this whole time, and I hope these folks see it and they’ll vote for me, is that I’m going to go out and just help solve the problems, which is what this job is supposed to be. It’s to represent the people that you serve. And so far that philosophy has served me well.”
Axne also touted the newly passed infrastructure bill and advocated for everyone to contact Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley to support President Joe Biden’s Build Better Back Bill, which supports several areas including child care and education.
Following redistricting, Greene County will be moving from the Fourth to the Third Congressional District in the upcoming November midterm elections.
