After the most recent Perry City Council meeting, an approved grant application may soon bring housing to the downtown area.
The Council approved an application for the Downtown Housing Grant on the behalf of Sheffer Enterprises, LLC. City Administrator Sven Peterson says with the potential grant, the property listed in the grant, located at 1203 2nd Street, is the site of the Tin Pig Tavern.
“This is the Tin Pig building. So, we are looking to get a grant from the state to help the Sheffer’s, the owners of the Tin Pig, put the residential apartments back on the second and third floors of their building. They are planning on 13 units up there and this grant would go a long way in helping them finish out those apartments.”
Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio this has been something that’s been talked about previously but between the derecho and coronavirus pandemic, it’s been a difficult process.
“I am hoping that we will be able to make a really good case to the state and get this grant award for the Sheffer’s.”
The application, which was approved on Tuesday, also requires a necessary match from the City in the amount not to exceed $130,000 if the grant is awarded.
