As the temperatures continue to fall in the winter months many should consider a winter survival kit for a vehicle.
Emergency Management Assistant Coordinator for Adair and Guthrie Counties Jeremy Cooper says when someone is stranded on the side of the road in the winter months and being without heat in a vehicle can become a dangerous situation. He mentions some things residents should have in their emergency kits.
“Having some blankets or sleeping bags in your vehicle is also a good idea. And making sure that your cell phone is charged, everybody has a cell phone today and that’s an easy way to get a hold of help.”
Coopers adds other items for your vehicle can be jumper cables, a flashlight, non-perishable snacks like nuts or energy bars, a tool kit, extra clothing and sand or kitty litter. He states that a lot of these survival kit items should also be kept in your home incase of a power outage.
