As the weather continues to be cold, there is still an opportunity to receive energy assistance.

The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) applications are still currently being accepted for income-eligible utility customers.

The annual application period continues until April 30th. The program is designed to help low-income homeowners and renters pay a portion of their primary home heating costs through a one-time payment for heating fuel or utility vendors.

Qualified applicants who are the head of the household are protected by Iowa law from having their natural gas or electric service disconnected from November 1st to April 30th but are encouraged to pay toward their bills to avoid debt and potential disconnection in the spring.
