After more than a year, charges have been filed against a Grand Junction man who struck and killed an individual with his vehicle.

According to court documents, 73-year-old Robert Kinnick was charged with a Class D Felony for leaving a scene of accident-resulting in death. The charge stems from an incident that happened on December 15, 2020. The Iowa State Patrol reports that Kinnick was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram truck and was headed northbound on 16th Street North in Grand Junction around 8:10pm.

Forty-six-year-old Travis Fincel of Grand Junction was walking north on 16th Street North on the east side of the street. Kinnick allegedly struck Fincel near the intersection of 16th Street North and Sandoe Street East. Kinnick then left the scene and authorities later found him at the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction.

Fincel was flown to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines with life-threatening injuries. He later died from those injuries on January 7, 2021. Kinnick admitted to the state patrol that he hit Fincel with his vehicle and left the scene without notifying authorities. Iowa State Patrol was in charge of the investigation.
