The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a phone scam. 

The scammers are calling people claiming to be Sergeant Derrick Jones with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and they are requesting money from you for missing jury duty or you will be arrested. The phone number the scammers are using shows up as the administrative number for the sheriff’s office of 515-993-4771. 

The Sheriff’s office does not have an employee by that name and nor would they contact you and request money. The Sheriff’s office says the scammers then change their number when law enforcement tries to call them back and they are using software that when the number that appears on your phone is their administrative number, the scammers are calling from somewhere else, thus not allowing law enforcement any way of tracking them down.

The Sheriff’s office urges everyone to hang up if they receive a phone call like this in the future.
