With the 2022 Iowa Legislative session coming up soon one lawmaker’s focus will be on continuing to improve broadband internet access across the state.
State Representative for District 20 Ray Sorensen wants to address ways to expand broadband into rura Iowa. Sorenson explains his goals to get rural areas broadband internet access.
“You know, my ultimate goal is to have everyone that wants to be connected to be connected to at least the FCC ( Federal Communications Commission) standard connection for internet, and so I guess I’m not going to stop until I reach that goal.”
According to the Federal Communications Commission the standard for internet connection is 25 megabits per second of download speed and three megabits per second of upload speed. Sorensen adds he will be looking at broadband grants and broadband bills to get rural Iowa adequate access to the internet.
