The month of January is jam-packed for the Greene County High School wrestling team. There are 10 competition dates scheduled including five tournaments. It all gets underway Tuesday night with a triangular added to the schedule shortly before the break for the holidays when the Rams go to Martensdale to face Martensdale-St. Mary’s and Nodaway Valley (Greenfield), a pair of Class 1A schools in non-conference action.

The Rams are 7-3 in dual meets and haven’t had a dual meet in three weeks due to mid-December storm-related power outages from the Dec. 15 storm causing the Rams to miss their Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opener, followed by the break for the holidays.

Greene County is led by 2021 State Champion McKinley Robbins, who is 16-1 this season and 87-3 in his 2-1/2 seasons as a varsity wrestler. Another 2021 State Champion, Kale Petersen, is a transfer from West Fork (Sheffield) after winning the 1A title at 106 lbs. in Feb. Petersen is sitting because of the transfer rule and will be eligible later this month. He told Raccoon Valley Radio he expects to wrestle at 120 lbs.
