There will be some measurable snowfall coming this weekend to Jefferson and residents are reminded of the city’s snow ordinance.

Police Chief Mark Clouse says the snow ordinance goes into effect anytime there is at least one-half inch of snow on the street. When the ordinance is in effect, there are to be no vehicles parked on the street, alleyway, and city-owned off-street parking until the snow event has stopped and Public Works has cleared the streets from curb to curb.

“So a lot of times you’ll see the guys out moving snow and they may just hit the main path that you drive on in the road. And then much, much later they’ll come by and wing it out clear to the curbs. That ordinance is in effect until it’s open clear up, curb to curb.”

Clouse notes the ordinance is 24-hours, but in the downtown square, there is to be no parking from 2-6am until all of the snow has been cleared from the street.

“Uptown on the square, the piles of snow that they put in the center of the road, that ordinance is going to be in effect until those piles have been removed as well. So if you think back in the past, it could be several days before that snow is actually picked up here on the square and hauled away. So that whole time, that ordinance is actually in effect.”

Clouse adds, officers will not start issuing snow parking citations until the plows have plowed around your vehicle in the effort to clear the snow from curb to curb. According to the National Weather Service, Greene County could see between 2-4 inches of snow by Sunday.
