For those celebrating New Years Eve, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Department reminds people to not drink and drive.
Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright says they will be out patrolling the streets looking for impaired drivers. He explains how dangerous driving under the influence can be.
“Detrimental in many ways. It can cause injury to other people or injuries or to themselves. Also, it’s expensive if you get stopped and you’re over the limit, which is .08 (blood alcohol level) in Iowa right now. So it doesn’t take a lot of drinks to get over .08. An OWI can cause a lot of money when it’s all said and done. If you have to get an attorney and get a special insurance, it’s costly.”
Arganbright states a good way to avoid drinking and driving is to have a designated driver or call the police department for a ride home. He also adds that the expected snowfall will make driving conditions difficult for even sober drivers.
