With the forecasted potential for snow in the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area this weekend, now is a good time to look at an ongoing event with a local organization.
The Dallas County Conservation Board offers the program called “When It Snows, We Ski” at the Voas Nature Area near Minburn. Outreach Coordinator Sarah Gilchrist explains the details of the program.
“We maintain a contact list for people who are interested in cross country skiing. So, this program when it is available, when the conditions are right, and when we have staff available it is simply a time when people can come and rent our equipment for a very low cost, it’s $3 a set. They can just come use the equipment and go out into Voas and experience cross country skiing.”
Gilchrist says the event is very popular when the conditions are right for it to take place. There is equipment including poles, boots and skis for shoes sizes from youth to adult. There is no registration required but you can sign up to receive alerts for when it’s available here.
