A Perry man has received a deferred judgement after a high speed chase earlier this year.
According to court documents, 20-year-old Daniel Perez-Garcia of Perry received a deferred judgement and was placed on probation for two years for the Class D Felony charge for eluding, two years of probation for the misdemeanor of operating while under the influence, and two years of probation for the misdemeanor of possession of a controlled substance.
The charges stem from an incident that happened on July 11th when Perry Police Officers were trying to conduct a traffic stop at 3:42am at the intersection of Willis Avenue and Diagonal Road for a 2011 GMC Sierra that had no license plates. Perez-Garcia refused to stop and sped off, reaching speeds of 74-miles-per-hour.
The vehicle became disabled when it hit a utility box in an alley behind Clean Works. Officers found 0.5 grams of marijuana in the vehicle after doing a probable cause search after finding an open beer can. Officers also performed a breath test which registered a 0.110 blood alcohol content.
Perez-Garcia also incurred $7,635 in fines and court costs for the case.
