After a major project was recently completed for one of the City of Jefferson’s amenities, more federal funding is on its way.
The Jefferson Municipal Airport is going to receive a $159,000 grant from the federal Airport Infrastructure Grant, which is part of the overall $24.5 million bipartisan infrastructure law that the U.S. Congress passed earlier this year. The local airport was one of close to 80 Iowa area airports that were recipients of the grant program.
This announcement comes after the airport recently completed its runway extension project that went from 3,200 to 4,000 feet to accommodate larger jet aircraft. That project was completely paid for by Federal Aviation Administration grant funds.
The Jefferson City Council earlier this month approved the annual five-year capital improvement plan for the airport. It was mentioned that the two major projects for the airport is building a 100-foot by 100-foot hangar and installing a jet fuel system over the next five years.
