As many people travel for the holidays, Iowa State Patrol wants to make sure motorist’s eyes are on the road at all times.

Iowa State Patrol Officer Shelby McCreedy says in Iowa during the Thanksgiving traveling period they had zero fatal crashes and would like to continue that trend by minimizing distracted driving the Christmas season. McCreedy states distracted driving is when a motorist takes their eyes off the road. She explains some keys points to driving safely.

Put the phone down. Drive the speed limit, wear your seatbelt. Focus on other people around you and get where you’re going safely.”

McCreedy adds the best way to use a navigation device is to turn the volume up and listen to it but another resource could be using a dashboard mount to keep the phone out of a motorist’s hand.
