With only a few days left in 2021, the Greene County Historical Society invites everyone to a special program.
On Tuesday, December 28th will be Iowa’s 175th birthday as a state and historical society board member Chuck Offenburger talks about the special guest speaker who has relatives from Greene County.
“Michael Morain, who is of the Greene County Morains, deep roots here, he’s the director of communications for the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and he’s going to come up and do a talk or a reflection on Iowa at 175 years old. So that’ll be a wonderful event. So we’re closing out the year in a big way.”
Offenburger says Morain grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1997 and then graduated from Graceland University with a degree in international studies. Before becoming the communications manager for the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs in 2016, he previously worked for the Des Moines Register. Morain’s grandfather Fred and uncle Rick are from Greene County and his late father Tom was a historian.
The free program on Tuesday will be held at the Greene County Historical Museum at 2pm. Free birthday cake and other refreshments will be provided, and no pre-registration is necessary.
