Mc Kinley Robbins
It’s Holiday break time for Greene County High School sports. The wrestling team has a 7-3 dual meet record, despite the challenges of injuries, illness, ineligibility, and other issues. The Rams have had three and four open weights at times, but 132 lbs. is not one of them. That’s where 2021 Class 2A State Champion McKinley Robbins wrestles. He’s 16-1 this season and 87-3 in his varsity career for a 96.66 winning percentage, the highest for 90 varsity matches since the Jefferson-based program began in the mid-1960’s.
Robbins, a regular at Sebolt Wrestling Academy in Jefferson under the direction of TJ Sebolt, has many positive attributes on the mat. Among those is balance and keeping good position. He was asked where that comes from. “You know, I couldn’t really tell you. TJ always asks me how I have such good balance. We don’t have balancing drills or work on that in practice. I tell him I have no idea.”
The Rams added a Jan. 4 triangular to the schedule. They’ll open 2022 in Martensdale vs. Marstensdale-St. Mary’s and Nodaway Valley (Greenfield).
