Dallas County Emergency Management is currently in a request for proposals for the multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan.

Emergency Management Coordinator A.J. Seely says the mitigation plan is a document that outlines what hazards and risks are present in the county while also highlighting ways to mitigate those risks, and the plan is revised every five years.

“Part of that planning process, what we do is we gather input from communities, from the public, and develop a list of vulnerabilities and associated mitigation strategies to help increase our resilience in Dallas County. This plan’s not something that is new, but it is up for revisions.”

Seely tells Raccoon Valley Radio right now they are currently looking for proposals from vendors to help out with the plan, which could be helped with funding from a hazard mitigation grant. Seely explains changes can happen outside of the regular five year revisions.

“We do work regularly with communities to work on local revisions. We’ve in the past couple years added three or four revisions for certain communities within Dallas County.”

Seely says the plan and strategies are important to outline and allows for jurisdictions who participate to be eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency funding.
