The Greene County Development Corporation Board met for the final time this year on Tuesday.
The meeting started with an update on the Diversity Project. The proposed program will be led by Carols Arguello with Latino IQ, with the idea of bringing Latinos into Greene County for available jobs. Steering Committee member Chuck Offenburger talked about why he wanted to volunteer to be on the committee. Arguello also spoke about the timeline and is hoping to use data from surveyed employers to better connect the Latino community to fill the needed workforce.
During reports, it was mentioned that Andy Rowland, owner of Rowland Construction, is building a three plex rental units in Jefferson, which are anticipated to be done by February. Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield reported that they are averaging 15-25 patients in the respiratory clinic for respiratory-related illnesses, he also mentioned working with the Diversity Project to fulfill needed jobs.
Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel talked about a Career Readiness Class at the Career Academy for those who are wanting to get back into the workforce or who need to improve their interviewing skills.
GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton spoke about different housing projects. He mentioned trying to get available lots in Paton and Scranton to build houses and is trying to draw interest from the land that is owned by JCorp near the Jefferson water tower for more housing.
