There is a final push for registrations for some Greene County youth to receive training to take care of other young ones.
Greene County ISU Extension is offering Babysitting Basics and there’s one class left with available spots at the Churdan Public Library on December 28th. Extension Director Lori Mannel says those who are in 5th-8th grade will learn about the responsibilities of being a babysitter, review what employers will expect, ideas of how to entertain children, handling emergencies, first aid and safety training and caring for children of different ages. She talks about other aspects of the hands-on learning environment.
“We got some grants several years ago and we have the little boy doll and the little girl doll, and then we bring in a live baby to show how to diaper and care for a live child.”
The class will be from 9am-3:30pm and the cost is $50, but space is limited. The other class is full at the Extension office in Jefferson on December 29th. Call the Extension office at 515-386-2138 to sign up for the Churdan Babysitting Basics program.
