The Iowa Department of Natural Resources recently awarded some Guthrie County area fire departments with grants. 

More than 115 rural Iowa fire departments were selected for the volunteer assistance grant that includes three Guthrie County cities with Menlo, Stuart and Yale. 

The fire departments received $289,000 in 50 percent cost-share grants and will help with assistance for wildfire suppression, personal protective and communications equipment. The grants were made possible by the DNR Forestry, in cooperation with US Forest Service- State and Private Forestry.
