As the coronavirus pandemic continues, people will once again be traveling during the holiday season and there are important reminders when doing so.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says people should remember during the holiday season they may encounter others they haven’t seen for a long time, and who may be carrying germs.

“They might be bringing germs of any type into the situation and you may have germs that they are not used to and it’s all about being immune. And if your immunity isn’t used to something that somebody is introducing into your environment, that’s an opportunity for you to get sick.”

Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio this also applies when traveling and going to a different state or to other gatherings including sporting events and vacations that people enjoy over the holiday season.

“You’re putting yourself at risk and more importantly if you are dragging your little kiddos along you are certainly putting them at risk.”

Cochran continues to recommend everyone who is eligible to receive a flu or COVID-19 vaccine to get one. For locations of COVID-19 vaccines in Iowa and Dallas County you can go here.
