Some Jefferson-area retailers are having special weekend hours to help those searching for that perfect and unique Christmas gift.

Bonnie Silbaugh is with Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Retail Revamped Team and says certain shops are open Sundays in December from noon-3pm. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio they are seeing an increase in people wanting to shop locally, especially during the holiday season.

“I would definitely say the push is going that way. A lot of the business owners are saying that they’ve had the most traffic they’ve had in years, one said a decade. So there is a push to get out of the big communities, get away from people that you’re not normally around, that you don’t know, and shopping in small groups, maybe a day trip to Jefferson, we’re seeing a lot of those. I definitely think the push is to more ‘shop local’ versus ‘big box’ (stores).”

The participating retailers will continue with the special Sunday hours leading up to Christmas.
