As the coronavirus pandemic continues, new variants pop up and here is what to know about the latest variant. 

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says the new variant of COVID-19 is Omicron. Cochran explains what people should know. 

“The Omicron variant is spread more easily but it’s not being found to be more severe than say the Delta variant that we’ve had so much of. The current vaccines that are given out right now for COVID are expected to protect us against the Omicron variant.”

As of yesterday the Iowa Department of Public Health confirmed that the first case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was detected in Black Hawk County.
