For one local Perry museum, the pandemic has kept its doors closed, but thanks to a new agreement the plans are to reopen soon.

Perry Library Director Mary Murphy says the Carnegie Library Museum has been closed since early 2020 but a new agreement approved by the Perry City Council, that has the City of Perry, Perry Library and Fullhart/Carnegie Charitable Trust, DBA Hometown Heritage working together, seeks to open the doors again soon.

“What this memorandum of understanding actually says is that we plan for five years, hopefully it can be sustained so we will be doing an agreement like this maybe in perpetuity the next time it comes up in five years, that the library director has oversight for the employees over at Hometown Heritage at the Carnegie Library Museum.  ”

Murphy tells Raccoon Valley Radio the plans are to have the doors back open to the museum in the near future if all goes well. Murphy says the museum is an important part of Perry.

“It’s the best restoration of a historical building I have ever seen. It’s like a feather in Perry’s hat and we want to have it open so the residents and visitors to Perry can enjoy it and be proud of it.”

Murphy anticipates opening the museum by the start of next month.
