In less than two hours early Thursday morning, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to four vehicle incidents that were related to the icy road conditions.

The first incident was a single vehicle rollover crash at 4:37am on Highway 30 near Hillcrest Avenue. The driver, 58-year-old Douglas Dusheck of Coon Rapids, lost control of a 1997 Chevrolet K-1500 as it rolled into the ditch. He was taken by Greene County Ambulance to Greene County Medical Center with injuries and the vehicle was a total loss.

The second crash occurred at 5:23am and involved two vehicles on Highway 30 again near Hillcrest Avenue. The sheriff’s office, along with the Jefferson and Scranton fire departments and Greene County Ambulance responded when the driver of a 2012 Chevrolet K-2500 truck was heading west on the highway, lost control due to the icy roads and hit an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the truck, 38-year-old Samuel Carlson of Jefferson, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the medical center and the driver of the Malibu was uninjured. Both vehicles were total losses. 

The last two single vehicle incidents happened at 5:41am on Highway 30 near Eaton Avenue and at 6:24am on Highway 30 and Granite Avenue. Both vehicles slid off the roadway and into the ditch. Both drivers were uninjured and their vehicles sustained minor damage. 

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, at the time of all these incidents, Highway 30 was completely covered with ice.
