A registration deadline is fast approaching for a certification program with those in the food service industry.

Greene County ISU Extension is hosting the ServSafe food safety training class on December 13th from 9am-6:30pm. Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about who should participate in the training.

“This is required by any organization or any restaurant to have certification to ensure that the managers and the workers are handling their food properly. When we go to restaurants, we want to ensure that we don’t get sick, and the food is handled with proper care, and everything is sterilized properly, and the food is stored and handled safely.”

ServSafe is based on the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe certification program and the Iowa Food Code. Registration deadline is November 22nd with a cost of $160. At the end of the program will be a 90-minute exam and participants will receive a certificate by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation as a Food Protection Manager. Registration is done online, by clicking the link below or you can contact the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson at 515-386-2138.
