The Scranton City Council met last week and different portions of the situation that resulted from the city election earlier this month was resolved.

Jerry Boyd defeated two other candidates that were on the ballot for mayor and he was one of the two candidates that received the most write-in votes for the two available seats on the council. Scranton City Clerk Crystal Rice says last week, Boyd resigned his position on council and declined to be on council for another four years, he then was sworn-in to serve as mayor for the rest of this year, due to the vacancy left by former Mayor Cole Gusthoff who previously resigned, and he will begin his two year term as mayor next year.

Also at the meeting, the candidate that received the most write-in votes for council, Dustin Gibson, agreed to serve the rest of Boyd’s term on council and will start his four year term next year. The other open seat on the council went to the next candidate with highest write-in votes which was Dave Dideriksen, who declined to serve another four year term, but agreed to stay on council until the end of his term, which is this year. According to Greene County Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins, this seat will be open starting January 1st, but the council can appointment someone.

Additionally, Jeramie Phillips resigned from council at last week’s meeting. He still has 2 years left of his four year term and the council is looking to fill that vacancy by appointment.
