Harvest season is headed to a close in Guthrie County.

Guthrie County Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt says 80-percent percent of corn and soybeans are close to or are done being harvested in Guthrie County. He says that the weather has worked in the favor of farmers.

“This rain allowed us to have a little break but before that we had extended harvest time so the warmer temperatures just allowed things to dry down quicker so we had excellent weather to go out in.”

Witt tells Raccoon Valley Radio, the top end of corn yield is between 180-190 bushels per acre and top end for soybean yields are around 60 bushels per acre.

According to the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture, farmers had 5.6 suitable field days last week. Statewide, 84-percent of corn and 95-percent of soybeans have been harvested.
