On Veterans Day, local artist and state representative Ray Sorenson announced the winner of the 100th Freedom Rock.
Sorenson accepted the highest bid of $20,000 to place the 100th Freedom Rock at Adventureland Park in Altoona. This rock will be placed in front of the park and is anticipated to be done by 4th, 2022. Sorenson explains the work that goes into making the rocks.
“I do the research, sketching and obviously the art work on the Freedom Rock so it’s a lot of hours and man power. Anybody that owns a small business knows the time and effort that goes into that.”
For more than two decades Sorensen has been painting giant boulders across Iowa as patriotic murals in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Sorenson has started his next venture, which is adding a Freedom Rock to every state in the U.S.
