A member of the American Legion Post #11 in Jefferson recently received recognition for his tenure membership.
Richard Fairclough was given a 51-year certificate of continuous membership in the American Legion at the organization’s November meeting. Fairclough moved to Jefferson last year and transferred into the Jefferson American Legion Post.
The American Legion is also looking for additional members. A recent change by the United States Congress expanded the eligibility period for people to join the American Legion. The Let Everyone Get Involved In Opportunities for National Service Act (the LEGION Act) now allows for the war time periods of December 7, 1941 to the present, and it includes the current war campaigns. As long as you served in the military at least one day of federal active duty during a qualifying period, you are eligible to join the American Legion.
The American Legion Post #11 in Jefferson meets the second Monday of the month at 7pm at the Welcome Center in Jefferson. Contact Adjudant Barb Labate with questions about membership at 515-386-5547.
