After switching to the Heart of Iowa Conference, the Perry Community School District will soon have new athletes out on the baseball and softball fields.
At the most recent School Board meeting this past Monday, the Board approved the middle school baseball and softball programs. Superintendent Clark Wicks says when Perry joined the new conference the plans were to add these programs.
“Well, it’s going to be an exciting venture for us so that we have all teams in the Heart of Iowa (Conference) playing middle school baseball and softball. So, the conversation was one we wanted to be a part of the HOI and we said that we would work on getting a middle school baseball and softball program and number two, we wanted to work with the little league programs, softball programs who have indicated that they would like to see the school be part of the partnership and to be taking over those two programs.”
Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio that with these new programs coming to the district it will be a benefit to younger students as they will have more continuity while playing athletics. Wicks is eager for the new sports programs to start.
“They’ll be doing some spring work before the baseball and softball high school season gets going. So, they’ll be using the same fields.”
The new middle school baseball and softball programs were approved at the most recent Perry School Board meeting on November 8th.
