The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, County Environmental Administrator Chuck Wenthold said National Grid Renewables are talking with local landowners about installing solar panels in the county. The company will have another discussion with the Supervisors at a later date. This past May, representatives with National Grid Renewables proposed a solar panel project in Junction Township to generate 100-megawatts of energy and would use between 800 and 900 acres of land.
County Attorney Thomas Laehn then asked about establishing a steering committee to discuss having a community service program for adult offenders. He said for some criminals community service would be better suited than serving jail time. The Board agreed to set up a committee. He also received the application from a county resident proposing to name the tributary to Cedar Creek from the Churdan area as Wolf Hollow Creek. Laehn said the U.S. Board on Geographic Names will not move forward on the proposal until they have received approval or disapproval from the Supervisors. Supervisor Chair John Muir suggested they discuss the matter with the surrounding landowners before making a decision.
A discussion was then held about a new jail. The Board decided to establish a formal committee that would make recommendations to the Supervisors relating to a new jail bond referendum.
Additionally, the Board approved the final renewal rates with Wellmark BlueCross/BlueShield for self-funded insurance, added Sunday, December 5th as a live concert date with the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower and transferring $75,000 from tax increment financing to debt service for interest payments and general obligation bonds as presented.
