The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has either halted or altered many activities but this weekend one will return in Perry.

Perry Fine Arts Committee Chairperson Cathy Clark says the pandemic has made them not be able to have concerts and regular activities since it began. Clark points out all of that will change starting this weekend.

“We are excited about getting started again. Our main concern is to keep people safe and healthy. We feel that our venues provide the safety and social distancing capabilities, if you so desire, and we do recommend that you do wear masks but they are not required.”

Clark tells Raccoon Valley Radio this weekend will be the return of Perry Fine Arts events with the annual William Bell Memorial Tuba Concert at First United Methodist Church in Perry this Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. Clark describes the details of the event.

“Everyone is invited to the church for that. After the concert the band members go to Violet Hill Cemetery and play around William Bell’s grave. William Bell was a famous tubist in the past and he got pneumonia in Des Moines and he came to Perry to be with his sister and he died here, so then he was buried in Violet Hill.”

Clark adds people can also visit the Williams Bell Room at the Hotel Pattee and see memorabilia about William Bell.
