For the avid hunters in Iowa, pheasant season starts tomorrow.
Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says the numbers for pheasants are looking good this year to harvest. Halterman directs people to a good place for pheasant hunting.
“With the habitat and cover and the birds would be Bays Branch, a state owned area, out to the north and east of Panora a little bit .”
Halterman says that the Iowa rules and regulations state that along with having a valid hunting license and habitat stamp, hunters also need to have an article of clothing to be hunters orange which includes a jacket, vest, hat and more. Halterman adds that there are certain rules on the transportation of pheasants.
“A foot or a fully feathered wing or fully feathered head has to remain attached to that pheasant that you are transporting in the state of Iowa.”
Halterman also states that hunters can go on the Iowa DNR website and Iowa Beacon for more rules and regulations and where to hunt.
